September 1st marks our one year diagnosis. I honestly can’t believe how this year has flown by. This time last year I couldn’t bear to watch the MDA Telethon although I was able to listen while I worked around the house a little. There were lots of tissues used and we eventually turned it off because the pain was too fresh.
My how a year can change you…I’m sure there will be an empty tissue box by day’s end but we are not only looking forward to watching the MDA Telethon this year we are honored to also be participating. The MDA has done so much to help us through this first year and we hope you will all tune in to show our gratitude.
For those of who are local please tune in to WRIC Channel 8 at 7:40pm to see our family interviewed live. All you other Warriors; I hope you will enjoy the telethon on your local channel and we will be sure to post our segment later in the month.
We don’t know how strong we are until being strong is the only choice we have.
Tune in for an all-new Telethon experience!

When Westley was diagnosed in September and we were able to grasp what this meant for his future Dallas and I knew we needed to make some changes. One of the most important was to find a way for me to become a stay at home mommy. With all the doctor’s appointments, extra help Westley needs and to be honest the extra attention that Wyatt so clearly deserves and needs we had to find a way to make this a reality. We set a goal that in 2 years from diagnoses I would be home full time. We had no clue how to make this happen so we prayed on it; Dallas must have prayed harder than me because the answer came quickly….
Today my amazing hubby heads back into the world of sales. Dallas has returned to RainSoft as a Regional Sales Trainer. Not as an employee this time but as a consultant allowing us to start our own Limited Liability Company. He is truly passionate about the products that RainSoft provides and is looking forward to helping the franchises on the east coast grow their business. This change means he will be on the road away from us a few days a week and sometimes for an entire week. Dallas is one of the most family oriented people I know and this is going to be tough on him.
I will continue to work until next summer when my contract ends. I am so blessed to work for a team I admire and bosses that understand that family comes first. After telling my boss of this change for our family we worked out a schedule that will allow me to complete all my work but do so from home a few days a week. I could not ask for a more understanding boss and a better work environment. We should all be so lucky to work with the group of people I have grown to love over the last 5 years.
I ask of you this…pray. Pray for Dallas’s strength while away from us. Pray for my patience as I go at this alone for days at a time. Pray for the boys to understand the greater good of this change. Pray that the distance between us is only in highway miles.
